ANNOUNCE NEW FILMMAKER AWARDS PROGRAM

Award-Winning Filmmakers to Receive Cash Award, Distribution Offer,

Expanded Editorial Coverage in Moving Pictures Magazine

 

Newport Beach, CA  – (January 13th 2010)    Moving Pictures Film & Television (MPFTV or Moving Pictures) and Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF) proudly announce the launch of the  2010  Moving Picture Film and Television Awards – Movies that Matter, created to celebrate excellence in contemporary filmmaking and honor groundbreaking cinematic works that aim to make an impact in society. As an established media partner of the NBFF through Moving Pictures magazine and  Official Sponsor of the  2010 MPFTV Awards at the  2010 Newport Beach Film Festival, Moving Pictures joins the Festival in its quest to discover fresh, compelling cinema from around the globe and support the advancement of emerging filmmakers.

 

Moving Pictures  will present awards to the winning filmmakers at the eleventh annual  Newport Beach Film Festival, scheduled to take place on  April 22-29, 2010 in Orange County, California. The  Moving Picture Awards- Movies that Matter competition categories include  ART HOUSE FEATURE LENGTH and  FAMILY FILM Feature Length

 

Competition winners in each category will receive recognition at the  2010 Newport Beach Film Festival, cash awards, an offer of distribution from  Moving Pictures Film & TV Distribution division and editorial coverage in  Moving Pictures Magazine print and online editions. In addition, all filmmakers who submit a feature length narrative film to the 2010 Newport Beach Film Festival will receive a complimentary one year subscription to   Moving Pictures Magazine.

 

Feature length narrative films in the categories of  ART HOUSE FEATURE LENGTH and  FAMILY FILM, completed in 2009 or 2010 that do not have a distribution deal are eligible for the  2010 Moving Pictures- Movies that Matter at the Newport Beach Film Festival.

The 2010 Newport Beach Film Festival will screen over 350 feature length and short films. The 2010 NBFF will also host red carpet Opening and Closing Night Gala Celebrations, International Spotlight events, an Action Sports Film Series, an Environmental Film Series, a Family Film Series, a Collegiate Showcase, a Youth Film Showcase and a free Seminar Series. Free Movie Mondays at OCPAC kick off July 13 Calls

The Orange County Performing Arts Center’s Free for All series continues this summer with its immensely popular free Movie Mondays on the community plaza.

 

 

July 13 – ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ –with media sponsor KCRW 89.9

August 3 - Mamma Mia!

 

 

 

The Movie Monday series is held on the Center’s community plaza with the films projected on the side of Segerstrom Hall. Guests are encouraged to bring beach chairs or other easily portable seating items. Set-up begins at 5:30 p.m. with the movie starting at dusk (approximately 8 p.m.). Partnering with the Newport Beach Film Festival, a selection of the best short animated films from this year’s festival will be shown prior to the main feature. Guests may bring their own snacks and picnic suppers. Patina Catering will have assorted snacks and beverages available for purchase. Barbecues and similar food preparation will not be permitted.

Cinema Orange film series at the Orange County Museum of Art Calls

Celebrating its fifth year, the Cinema Orange film series spotlights the cinematic works of independent filmmakers from around the world. Co presented by the Orange County Museum of Art and the Newport Beach Film Festival, this season’s films explore art, architecture and design.

August 27 – ‘Milton Glaser: To Inform and Delight’ directed by Wendy Keys

 

 

September 24 – ‘Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman’ directed by Eric Bricker

Films screen at the museum’s pavilion and are free with paid admission. Tickets are $12 general, OCMA members free; admission includes access to the galleries until 8 pm.
